About Us

What Sets Us Apart? DNA features

C&C has a proven ability to understand our clients’ objectives and hit-the-ground running, generating exceptional results and value.

Results Driven

Founded in 2003 by Cathy Cowan, Cowan & Company works with a wide variety of clients ranging from: consumer packaged goods, food, entertainment, beauty, fashion, retail, healthcare, consumer electronics and the list goes on…. This daily exposure to multiple industries, media and influencers and clients keeps C&C focused on providing fresh thinking and an unsurpassed focus on generating results.

Tri-fold Communications Experience

Prior to C&C, our team members wore multiple hats including Media, Client and Agency. This gives us valuable first-hand insight into what we need to bring to the table to get the results our clients desire. Our professionalism, best practices and “Big PR Agency” backgrounds enable our team to effectively cut through the clutter, giving our clients the savvy of a big agency with the responsiveness & creativity of a boutique firm.

Partnership Approach

C&C strives each day to be a “partner” vs. a “supplier” to our clients. We see ourselves as an extension of our clients’ teams. We are proud of our long-lasting partnerships with our clients. We believe it’s a true testament to our forward-thinking approach to PR and exceptional results we continually achieve for our clients.

Value

Cowan & Company’s virtual office structure minimizes overhead costs and we pass these savings along to our clients to maximize C&C’s value proposition.

Experienced Day-to-Day Team

Unlike many other boutique shops or agencies, the core team at Cowan & Company is comprised of senior senior PR practitioners who work hands-on both strategic development and front-line program implementation.

Perhaps most importantly, Cowan & Company is passionate about marketing communications and loves the opportunity to help clients achieve – and surpass – their communications objectives.

C&C Team

One critical factor that sets C&C apart from other boutique agencies is the first-class pedigree of our Leadership Team. With solid years of Big PR Agency, Client-side and Media experience behind them, each member of C&C’s Leadership is a PR Guru in their own right.

Together we are a force to be reckoned with!

Cowan & Company has affiliates in Montreal and Vancouver, as well as a talented pool of associates who are hand-picked for each project with optimal results in mind.

Cathy Cowan, MBA,
Founder & President

With more than 20 years of experience in the communications industry, Cathy has earned a stellar reputation for creating strategic communications that get results. Cathy launched C&C in 2003 as an alternative agency for big brands who want big-agency thinking & results without the big-agency baggage and price tag. C&C’s vision is to continue doing “big agency” caliber work, but with a better work-life balance for the team and better ROI and service for our clients.

As the hands-on President of Cowan & Company, Cathy’s big-picture thinking contributes to the success of every C&C client. Some career highlights include developing brand activation strategies for L’Oréal Paris’ sponsorship of Toronto Fashion Week for 17 seasons, assisting with the development of Lancome’s Mille Femmes campaign recognizing the top 1000 creative women in Toronto, bringing Diane Keaton to Canada to promote L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect skincare….

In 2013, Cathy was honoured to be recognized as “PR Professional of the Year” by the Toronto chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society.

Prior to founding C&C, Cathy held senior management positions with some of Canada’s largest PR firms, where she created and implemented marketing communications strategies for industry leaders such as Nintendo, Cisco, Star Choice and Expedia.ca. She earned a BA from the University of Western Ontario and MBA from the University of Leicester Management Centre,

In her downtime, you will likely find Cathy cheering on her young athletic son at various sporting venues, staying up to date with latest tidbits on the British Royal Family and depending on the time of day, sipping on a latte or a glass of red wine (which according to her, are both essential food groups).

Margaret Batuszkin,
Director of Communications

With over 15+ years of experience in the communications industry, Margaret has enjoyed success on both the client and agency side. She originally started her career as a journalist and Editor-in-Chief for a number of Canada’s leading trade publications. This has given her a unique perspective and first-hand insight into creating strategic communications campaigns that appeal to each targeted audience’s unique needs.

As Director of Communications for C&C, Margaret enjoys the diversity of the firm’s premium lifestyle clients. These are brands she both professionally and personally covets. Career highlights include working backstage for 18 seasons at Toronto Fashion Week with L’Oréal Paris during its title sponsorship. Each season she facilitated and managed more than 35-50 media and influencer interviews backstage with the brand’s official beauty experts who created all of the designer runway beauty looks.

Other highlights include developing strategic communications programs for L’Oréal Paris as part of its ongoing sponsorship of the Toronto International Film Festival. Initiatives have included new product launches, events and exclusive interviews with the brand’s celebrity spokespeople including Jane Fonda, Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts and Karlie Kloss.

Prior to joining C&C in 2003, Margaret held client-side PR roles with global communications mandates. She has also worked with some of Canada’s leading communications firms on a range of clients including Sony, Packard Bell NEC, Loblaws, CIBC, PC Financial, Toshiba, and The Canadian Space Agency.

When she’s not day-dreaming of her next Scottish Highlands adventure, Margaret, a self-proclaimed makeup junkie can be found either playing with her extensive makeup collection or one of her many four-legged family members.

Karina Moskvitin,
Account Coordinator

Prior to starting with C&C, Karina has worked in several industries, including health and fashion. After recognizing her passion for communications, she headed back to school and graduated from Seneca College’s Corporate Communications – Public Relations program, landing an internship with the Toronto District School Board.

Several freelance opportunities followed, where she was able to partner and work with organizations and brands who were looking for support in production, crisis communication and event management.

She gives her time to a wonderful non-for-profit organization – Pink Pearl, by helping to support the charity’s various initiatives through PR.

With an eye to detail and desire for flawless results, she lends her expertise to event management, creative strategy and client care. No task is too big or too small for her to attempt to tackle – and she approaches each one with 100% effort and care.

A self-proclaimed foodie, and political junkie, with a passion for health and wellness, she uses her spare time perfecting her downward dog, while simultaneously eating her way through Toronto’s incredible brunch spots.
